UCI Health has successfully treated its first patient using MR-guided focused ultrasound, an innovative and incision-free therapy for essential tremor and tremor-predominant Parkinson’s disease. This outpatient procedure utilizes MRI technology to target and eliminate a small brain tissue area responsible for tremors, providing immediate relief from symptoms without the need for surgery or implants. The initial patient reported a marked improvement in hand tremor, with further sessions scheduled and promising results anticipated for additional patients.
